概要："Governmentality and the Space of Teaching" Michel Foucault's concept of governmentality has been appearing in a wide range of fields in the last fifteen years or so. It has helped scholars from nursing to international relations to think about the processes by which power operates in diverse contemporary settings. Foucault's framework provides an indispensable starting point for thinking about our societies and their institutions, but the real task is to make this diagnostic ethos active and useful in the everyday work of the university. By drawing from pragmatist ideas about the intrinsic value of education as growth we are able see more clearly the limits of our governmental roles as professors and students, and think more creatively about the classroom as a unique space for experiment and exploration.
