概要：The School of English provides supervision for the research degrees of MPhil and PhD, including the PhD in Creative Writing. The MPhil normally requires two years of study in which candidates take a one-year taught course from the MLitt programme, to be followed by a second year of research, and submit a thesis of not more than 40,000 words; candidates may, however, apply to be admitted directly to the second year. Candidates for the PhD undertake at least three years of study, and submit a thesis of not more than 80,000 words. Applications must include a description of the proposed topic of research. Research students are initially admitted under a general research ordinance, and registration for the specific degree is then made on the recommendation of the supervisor after two terms of study.
