概要：The Department of German welcomes applications or enquiries about study towards the research degrees of MPhil and PhD, as well as the MA in German Linguistics by Research. Successful applicants will join a vibrant research community which features a number of regular seminars and forums.All research students (except MA) are initially registered for the MPhil degree. After one year of full-time study, or two years part-time, students undergo a review for which they submit a piece of work (around 10,000 words) and a programme for completion of the PhD dissertation, which they present to a panel of staff members. If the student wishes, and if his/her progress is considered satisfactory, he or she is then 'upgraded' to registration for the PhD. As well as this 'upgrade' review, all students, whether full- or part-time undergo an annual progress review, conducted by the Department's Postgraduate and Research Committee (PARC).
