概要：Founded by Ralph O. Nafziger, an interdisciplinary program in mass communication that led to the Ph.D. degree was established in 1950, with the first doctorate awarded in 1953. By 1973, the School had graduated more Ph.Ds in mass communication than any other program in the country. Today, the J-School's Ph.D. program consistently ranks in the top five of the nation's communication educational institutions by US News & World Report, the International Communication Association, and other highly regarded reviewing bodies. In recent years, the School has been recognized for having the most productive graduate students in journal publishing and the most widely cited faculty in the field of communications. The School admits on average 10 students each year in a highly competitive application process. Our Ph.D. graduates also typically land well; our alumni have found homes as tenured faculty at communication schools around the globe and are considered some of the top researchers in the field.
